American Flag Handprint Kids Shirt - An Easy July 4 Craft!

It's not too late to make these super cute July 4th t-shirts with your kiddos before the Independence Day parades and fireworks start!

DIY handprint flag shirt Materials

Fabric paint red - Red or Watermelon from the brand Tulip works great!
Fabric paint blue - Blue, Tulip brand or this Glitter Blue by Make
Star stickers, assorted sizes - small star stickers, medium star stickers

Steps to make your own handprint flag shirt

  1. 1. Place the stickers in the top left corner of the shirt, where the blue background would be on a traditional flag.

  2. 2. Place something inside the shirt that will lay flat, like a grocery bag, piece of cardboard, or sheet of paper. This will keep the paint from bleeding through the shirt and onto the back of it.
  3. 3. Paint your kiddo's hand of choice with blue fabric paint. We tried the glitter paint and it seemed like most of the glitter stayed on their hands instead of transferring onto the shirt with their handprint.

  4. 4. Press their painted hand palm down onto the shirt where you have the star stickers.
  5. 5. If your little one is old enough, they can then paint the red stripes. If not you can do this with a flat-edge paintbrush. I used Watermelon for the red stripes on the boys' shirts this time, and it's a true-enough red for this project.
  6. 6. Let the paint dry before peeling off the star stickers.
  7. 7. Let the shirts dry and set at least 48 hours before washing. I didn't bother with washing until after they had worn them for the holiday.
